TEMPERED GLASS

Description

Tempered glass, also known as safety glass, is glass strengthened by heat treatment. This gives it impact resistance up to five times greater than standard glazing. Tempered glass can also withstand temperature differences of up to approximately 200°C. It breaks into small, relatively harmless fragments. Our glass complies with EN 12150 and EN 12600 standards.

The tempering process involves heating the glass to a temperature of approximately 620 to 650 degrees Celsius, then rapidly cooling it with compressed air. This treatment creates compression on the outer surfaces of the glass and tension within, thus increasing its resistance to impacts and thermal shock.

Can tempered glass be cut to size? Our customers often ask this question, either because they may have made a mistake when taking measurements, or for home staging purposes (reusing a tempered glass top on another table base, for example). Unfortunately, we cannot cut tempered glass. If we attempt to cut it, it shatters into small pieces. We therefore recommend that our customers check the dimensions before confirming a tempered glass order.
